Fireside chat with Sean Work, Founder of Judicious

Who is Sean Work?

Sean Work is an aerospace engineer turned marketer. I’ve marketed everything from skateboards to website analytics software.

What’s the story behind Judicious?

Judicious, Inc. is the result of our accountant recommending incorporation. I was starting to take on side work as a search engine optimizer in 2015 and I was running a legal directory. We noticed the name Judicious, Inc. was available so we ran with it. Also, our SEO processes are extremely thorough, so it was fitting.

What was the most difficult part of your experience in the early beginnings?

Probably stress. Too much work.

What are you most proud of regarding your business?

COVID. We were still busy when other agencies were suffering. We really do offer a unique service set. We don’t know any other agency around town that conducts search engine optimization audits as thoroughly as we do. We also provide top-notch longform written content.

What is your vision for the future of Judicious?

The vision of the future: Tying our work to helping the planet. That’s our “why”. This year we’re trying to get 9 other companies to match our 1,000 tree donation to One Tree Planted. In 2022, we’re hoping to get 99 companies to join us. If that’s doable, we’ll shoot for 999 companies in 2023.

What’s your advice for the businesses that are trying to adapt to this economic climate?

Come up with a strategy. We constantly see companies struggle that haven’t ironed out a business strategy. And honestly, this has always been a problem (even before COVID).

Please name a few technologies which have the greatest impact on your business.

I’d say our own proprietary technology and Google Docs.

What books do you have on your nightstand?

  • Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi  by Bob Woordward

Because of the current economic climate our publication has started a series of discussions with professional individuals meant to engage our readers with relevant companies and their representatives in order to discuss their involvement, what challenges they have had in the past and what they are looking forward to in the future. This sequence aims to present a series of experiences, recent developments, changes and downsides in terms of their business areas, as well as their goals, values, career history, the high-impact success outcomes and achievements.
